The standard of restaurants in Calais can vary quite considerably, so we've asked our French-based staff to put together some recommendations for restaurants they think you'd enjoy.*

Au Cote d'Argent

This restaurant is on the seafront close to the busy port. Bertrand Lefebvre provides excellent cuisine with the emphasis on fresh products. If you are a seafood lover, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

Café de Paris

A very large restaurant which is round the corner from the Place D'Armes in Calais Nord on Rue Royal, which serves fantastic pizza and steak and perfect for a quick snack. Popular with locals and tourists alike, it is normally very busy.

Café de la Tour

Situated right beside the Place D'Armes in Calais Nord, Café de la Tour is a brasserie style restaurant with classic French Cuisine, and impeccable service. If the weather is good sitting outside watching the world go by and soaking up the ambiance is a must. Boeuf Bourguignon and frites is a recommendation!

Le Channel

Quite simply a very good restaurant, with excellent food (particularly fish), good service, and, I suspect, the best wine list for many a mile around. Run by the Crespo family who also own the famous Maison du Fromage shop around the corner.

The Deltaplane

If you're a looking for a traditional French meal with no frills but excellent value, the back room in this café is the place to go. It's like sitting in a local's front room with family photos and an interesting decoration theme! The food is unbelievably cheap and the restaurant is very close to our Coquelles store so perfect if you have not got a great deal of time.

Patrick Comte runs this small welcoming bistro on the Rue Royale in the heart of Calais. The menus are varied depending on seasonal availability and would certainly suit anyone with a penchant for meat. The well presented food is served in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere.
